Our history in PRE horse breeding began in the year 2000 with the arrival of horses from outstanding stud farms in Costa Rica.
Originally, these beautiful and noble horses were bred to satisfy our needs and those of our visitors at Hacienda Don Ricardo. The excitement of having these equines on our land drove us to develop organized breeding, rigorously complying with the regulations of the Royal National Association of Pure Spanish Horse Breeders (ANCCE), thus ensuring the quality of our PRE horses.
Panama has a great tradition in the breeding of racehorses and quarter horses. Our vision has been to contribute to the recognition and appreciation of the PRE horse in the region, inspired by the enthusiasm and dedication we have witnessed worldwide towards this noble breed. We decided to replicate and promote the unique qualities of the PRE in Panama.
In our eagerness to improve breeding, we imported stallions and mares from the main stud farms in Spain, focusing on the characteristics we wish to highlight.
Our attention is focused on developing animals that satisfy the preferences of horse lovers, highlighting the morphology, functionality and movements of this incomparable breed.
All our specimens grow up in freedom until the appropriate age to start their training. During their growth, we feed them carefully, ensuring their balanced development and the formation of exceptional specimens.
At Hacienda Don Ricardo we promote herd management, which fosters sociability and acceptance of caregivers as well as everyone around them. This approach results in docile and friendly animals. During the growth phase, we carefully observe the abilities and performance of each animal in order to define the taming and future destiny based on their aptitudes.
Our satisfaction comes from sharing our specimens, which are our best calling card, and from establishing lasting relationships. Beyond economic interests, we share the passion that unites us as human beings through equines and our values.
Currently, at Hacienda Don Ricardo, we have explored the crossbreeding of mules with PRE mares, in search of highly efficient and intelligent working animals. We also cross Shetland pony stallions with PRE mares, seeking specimens of medium height with trainability and docility; all while continuing our great interest in improving our genetics of pure Spanish horses, day after day.
Looking to the future, we aspire to become a benchmark in the breeding of PRE horses and their derivative breeds, while offering our visitors authentic and exciting experiences in the Spanish breeding style in Panama.
